League Regulations 2026

General Information

  • Participation in the league costs $15 per player and is to be paid on the first competition evening.
  • On Thursday evenings, seven courts are reserved for league matches.

Registration

  • Teams can register in the levels Open, Advanced, Intermediate and Fun.
  • Each poule consists of six teams. For some levels two poules may be formed.
  • Placement in poules is based on the combined individual ranking of both players.
  • If necessary, a seventh team may be added to a poule.

Format

  • Each team plays one match against every other team in their poule.
  • Teams play one match per competition evening, occasionally two.
  • Matches are played best-of-three sets. With a score of 1–1, a third set will be played as a super tiebreak.

Competition Evenings

  • Matches are scheduled using the “followed by” principle. The first matches start at 5:00 PM. Following matches begin as soon as the previous match on that court is completed.
  • All times are approximate. Teams must be ready to play in order to avoid delays.
  • Teams must be at the court at least 30 minutes prior to their scheduled start time.
  • If a team is not present within 10 minutes after the court becomes available, that team loses the first set 6–3.
  • If a team is not present within 15 minutes after the court becomes available, that team loses the match 6–3, 6–3.

Unable to Play

  • Teams are expected to be present for all competition evenings. During registration, each team may indicate one date on which they cannot play.
  • The final league day is excluded from this rule; attendance is required for semifinals and finals.
  • Each team may reschedule one match on their own initiative by finding an open slot in the schedule and aligning availability with their opponents. Rescheduling must always be communicated with League Officials.
  • A rescheduling request must be made before 10:00 PM on the day prior to the scheduled match. After this deadline, the result is recorded as 6-3, 6-3.
  • If a team is unable to find a replacement date, the match result will be recorded as 6-3, 6-3.
  • Teams may use a substitute player a maximum of two times per season. The substitute must be of the same or a lower level and may not be registered in another team.
  • Opponents may refuse to play against a substitute and request to reschedule the match to a date when the original player is available.
  • In the case of long-term injury or an external circumstance preventing participation, a permanent substitute of the same or lower level may complete the season. A permanent substitute may not be registered in another team and must be approved by League Officials.

Scoring System

  • League standings are determined by:
  1. Number of matches won
  2. Sets won minus sets lost
  3. Games won minus games lost
  4. Head-to-head results

Ranking Points

  • League results contribute to the Bonaire Ranking System. Points are awarded as follows:

Finals

  • For levels with two poules, semifinals and finals will be played on the final league day between the #1 and #2 of each poule.
  • Quarterfinals will not be played. The #3 and #4 of each poule receive quarterfinalist points.
  • For levels with a single poule, no finals will be played. The final poule standings determine the distribution of points.

Final Note

  • Beach Tennis Bonaire and the League Officials have the final say in any rulings.
